About

Me

Hello! My name is Alan Peral and I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am interested in data visualization, human computation, crowdsourcing and collaboration, games with a purpose, and things that fall within the vast realm of "tech for good." Here is a short list of papers that fascinate me (not exhaustive):

I also like making videos and exploring creative storytelling endeavours. Check out a few of my videos here. Other people have made amazing explorable explanations, melding art with education to make captivating experiences. This speaks to another of my interests to continue to push education to be more engaging, empowering, and creative! When I'm not working or doing my homework, I can be found playing soccer or video games, getting involved in community activties (volunteer and otherwise), dancing, or walking my dog. I also like reading some good sci-fi books, historical non-fiction, and powerful, poignant essays. Please send me book recommendations, interesting papers to read, or maybe just a funny meme. Catch me on linkedin or shoot me an email at: alan [dot] peralortiz [at] ucsc [dot] edu. Feel free to just say hello too!
